The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier has said "there is no place" for a bespoke deal to protect the City of London's ability to trade on the continent.

Barnier said if the UK leaves the European single market - as Prime Minister Theresa May has indicated - then the country's financial services sector must forfeit its ability to trade freely with the EU, according to the Telegraph. In an interview with a number of newspapers, Barnier said "there is no place (for [financial services]" in any agreement.
