Schroders' Buxton adds voice to single currency debate

Richard Buxton has added his name to a growing list of fund manager heavyweights casting doubt on the future of the beleaguered euro.

Speaking at the Schroder Scottish Investment Conference last week, the head of UK equities Buxton said the single currency would just survive the current crisis, but would eventually "blow up". "The euro will survive this crisis and muddle through it for some time," he said. "[But] it is totally flawed to have currency union without fiscal and political union. The euro will eventually blow up." Buxton's comments follow those of several high-profile fund managers who recently forecast an end to the single currency.
