Munro to succeed Cheetham as HSBC GAM global CIO
Cheetham announced retirement in May
Joanna Munro is set to become global CIO at HSBC Global Asset Management, taking over from Chris Cheetham who announced plans to retire after 17 years in the role in May.
Taking over from 40-year veteran Cheetham at the end of September, Munro currently serves as global head of stewardship and fiduciary governance, as well as chairperson, at HSBC GAM UK.
Munro joined the firm in October 2005 as global CIO HSBC Investments, and has also previously served as head of product and CEO of Asia Pacific operations.
Outside of HSBC GAM, she serves as a non-executive director of the Investment Association and is a founding member of the Diversity Project. Munro was previously a non-executive director of CFA UK where she was a also member of its advisory council.
HSBC GAM appoints co-CIOs for multi-asset
Global CEO of HSBC Global Asset Management Nicolas Moreau, to whom Munro will report, said the newly appointed global CIO's "ability to encourage global collaboration, track record in bringing people together and attitude towards problem-solving makes her the ideal candidate" for the role.
He added: "I am confident that with her extensive, global experience we will be in an even stronger place to help clients meet their investment objectives."
Munro said her "background brings a fresh perspective to the role", adding "I look forward to working with my colleagues at HSBC Global Asset Management to meet our clients' evolving investment needs".
