Welcome to 2011 - the year of the tax rise. It is hard to get excited about VAT going up 2.5%, just as it was hard to get excited about it going down.
Did you spend more when it went down, will you spend less because it is going up? Our reaction to the whole VAT issue says more about our psychological state than our rational frame of mind. Apparently after a couple of weeks away from work when you do not have to get up at the crack of dawn and get more sleep and eat more it affects your body.
