Every now and again, someone comes along and launches a new fund and I think: ‘What a good idea!'

At the risk of sounding cynical, a lot of new launches are ‘me-too’. And while some of these do fill a need, a lot are destined to fill shelf space at Cofunds or FundsNetwork and frankly do nothing more than fill up the stats pages at the back of Investment Week. Notable ones that made me sit up and have a good look were Schroder Income Maximiser and BlackRock UK Absolute Alpha, which have become superb funds in terms of performance and assets attracted, since they launched in 2005. And now, along comes another fund I think has the long-term potential to be a really useful addition to...
