UK business confidence hit as hung parliament creates 'political limbo'

No appetite for another election

Uncertainty driven by the result of last week's General Election has thrown UK businesses into "political limbo", the Institute of Directors has warned.

However, despite the discomfort caused by the surprise delivery of a hung parliament, IoD members have "no desire" to see another election in 2017, according to the BBC. "Businesses have shown in the last year that they are resilient to surprise results, but they have now been thrown into political limbo," said IoD director general Stephen Martin. "With crucial Brexit negotiations coming up fast, in addition to the significant domestic challenges we face, the lack of a government with a majority undeniably creates uncertainty."
