Ecclesiastical's Hepworth: UK election fears are overstated

Ecclesiastical's Robin Hepworth has said fears the upcoming general election will have a detrimental impact on the UK equity market are overstated.

Unlike many of his peers, who have been reducing UK equity exposure ahead of the general election in May, Hepworth (pictured) does not expect it will seriously affect the UK equity market. "If you take the long-term view, it does not actually seem to matter to equity markets in the UK who is in power. In fact, they seem to do slightly better under Labour than the Conservatives," he said. The manager added he does not expect to see increased market volatility in the run-up to the election.
