Stocks slide ahead of Eurogroup meeting on Greece

European stocks slumped in afternoon trading ahead of a meeting of eurozone finance ministers to agree on the next tranche of aid for Greece.

The European Union's Economic Affairs commissioner Olli Rehn indicated today there is a real possibility that a deal on Greece will finally be struck when the Eurogroup meets. As a possible worst case scenario however, Finland has indicated an agreement may not be reached until a meeting on 3 December. In Europe, the French Cac was down 0.88% to 3,498 and the German Dax shed 0.35% to 7,284. The Euro Stoxx 50 was 0.64% lower at 2,541 in afternoon trading.
