The long-awaited UK launch of the Apple iPad heralded the start of a predicted technology boom, which will have little in common with the last.

It is understandable that some investors would be reluctant to invest in the technology sector. Despite being a decade in the past, memories of the dotcom crash remain fresh and have left many that backed the supposed revolution scarred. However, as Apple launches its latest must-have gadget, the iPad, there are plenty of reasons to believe the technology boom forecast 10 years ago has now belatedly arrived and that there is little chance of history being repeated with companies at the forefront of this new technology revolution having little in common with their early predecessors.
