Government borrowing surges £3.5bn above OBR forecast in August

UK public sector borrowing rose by 19% year on year to £18.3bn in August, according to the latest update from the Office for National Statistics, significantly ahead of the amount projected by the Official for Budget Responsibility (OBR).
