Are university fees going to be the next poll tax? It seems unlikely, not least because the demonstrations have come so early in the coalition's administration, and the government will no doubt be glad of Christmas as students go on their break.
Then again, presumably anarchists do not celebrate Christmas so they could be out on the streets on Christmas Day demonstrating about something. Now, I should declare my interest in this debate, so you can judge where I am coming from. Currently, I have one daughter at uni with two years to go, so we will miss most of the fee pain and, unless emerging markets crash wholesale over those two years, the financial pain will not be too great as a couple of GEM funds are paying the way.
