Danger in talk of change

The three main political parties have now all revealed their slogans to attract the electorate in the forthcoming elections and it will not be long before the official date is called - 6th May still looks favourite - and they publish their manifestos.

The Liberal Democrats unveiled their slogan “Change that works for you” at their conference last weekend with a logo the Independent pointed out resembled Somerfield supermarket. There is surely an irony if a political party finds itself compared to a middle-market supermarket, which might mean the Conservatives could be seen as Waitrose and the Labour party Co-op. The Conservatives are going to the polls with the slogan “A year for change”, which they hope will resonate with a desire to see a change of government, while Labour will carry on with the theme of fairness, which has been ...
