Could Albert Edwards be the next BoE Governor?

Permabear Albert Edwards has been encouraged to apply for the job of Governor of the Bank of England, replacing Mark Carney who is expected to step down in January 2020.

In his weekly strategy note, Edwards, who is co-head of global strategy at Société Générale, said he would be "up for the job" if the UK Government were looking for a candidate outside of the establishment. His note said: "One of my former colleagues is trying to persuade me to apply for the vacant job as Governor of the Bank of England. "I note that Philip Hammond, the UK Finance Minister, said 'we are looking, obviously, for a candidate of the highest calibre'. "Well darn it!
