Carmignac has appointed Raphael Gallardo as chief economist from Ostrum Asset Management, previously Natixis AM.
Gallardo spent five years at Ostrum, where he was a cross-asset strategist, responsible for monitoring the macro scenario across FX, rates, commodities and equities.
Prior to that, he was head of macroeconomic research at AXA Investment Managers for five years between 2007 and 2012.
Gallardo started his career at BNP Paribas where he spent ten years in a number of different roles including senior strategist.
He will report to Frederic Leroux, head of the cross asset team at Carmignac.
Leroux commented: "Raphael is a natural fit for the cross-asset team which lies at the heart of Carmignac's top-down approach.
"His unique expertise in anticipating cycles and determining market sentiment will be a true asset in applying the company's global vision into investment decisions."
