EU's Barnier: Brexit transition must end by December 2020

The European Union's chief negotiator Michel Barnier has said the Brexit transition period between the bloc and the UK must end by 31 December 2020.

In a speech on Wednesday (20 December) Barnier said the transition would see the UK keep all the benefits of the single market, but also all EU laws, according to the Guardian. He also reiterated comments made earlier this week, stating the UK would not see any financial services-specific free trade deal post-Brexit.
