Columbia Threadneedle's chief executive officer for EMEA and global chief operating officer Campbell Fleming has left the firm to join Aberdeen Asset Management as global head of distribution.

Fleming (pictured) has resigned from his role at Columbia Threadneedle after six years, having joined in 2009.

He will be responsible for Aberdeen's global distribution platform encompassing 450 people across business development, product specialists, marketing and client service, and will also work closely with the senior management of all of the firm's investment capabilities.

Aberdeen falls out of top ten 'brand leaders' list

In this new role he succeeds John Brett, after he stepped down last year. He will report to Aberdeen's chief executive Martin Gilbert and will join the company's group management board.

Gilbert said: "We are delighted to attract someone of Campbell's calibre - this reflects the appeal of our global platform and our full-service capability across asset classes and strategies.

"After an in-depth worldwide search process, Campbell was identified as the outstanding candidate given his expertise and experience across client channels globally, including North America which is a key focus for us."

Fleming joined Threadneedle from JP Morgan in 2009 as head of distribution, and took on the CEO role on 1 March 2013.

Ted Truscott, CEO at Columbia Threadneedle, said: "Campbell made many contributions during his six years with the organisation, including expanding our distribution capability and further strengthening our position in the marketplace.

"As a member of the leadership team, he helped to establish our global business. Throughout his time here Campbell has been an advocate for our active management approach and investment track record, as well as our client-focused culture.

"We wish Campbell every success in the future. We have a strong and experienced leadership team in place and we remain focused on delivering successful investment outcomes and solutions for our clients."
