Managers bullish on UK consumer

Fraser Mackersie and Simon Moon, managers of the Unicorn UK Income fund, have revealed five of their favourite consumer stocks which have helped boost recent performance.

The £657m fund is top quartile of the IA UK Equity Income sector over one, three and five years, having returned 58% over three years to 8 December versus an average of 36%, according to FE Trustnet. Its managers are particularly bullish on consumer-facing companies, which they say have benefitted from an increase in real wages and low inflation. Moon said: "The consumer has more confidence in spending money in small ways, so they may go to the pub for dinner, take the kids to the cinema more often, or finish that home project."
