FTSE in line for second day of gains

The FTSE 100 was enjoying a second consecutive day of gains on Wednesday as investors pushed the index to a two-week high.

By 10:50am, the blue chip index was up 1% or 57 points, to 5,326, building on yesterday's strong showing when it climbed more than 2%. A range of companies - including miners and energy stocks - led the index higher, after gains in the US overnight. On Wall Street the Dow put on 20 points to close at 11,559, while the S&P 500 also edged up, gaining 3 points to 1,213. Investors are becoming more confident following the recent heavy sell-off, with expectations mounting the Federal Reserve will take action to provide some further stimulus to the flagging US economy.
