The acting managing director of the IMF said the institution will continue to function effectively following the resignation of Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
John Lipsky, who took over from Strauss-Kahn following his arrest over an alleged sexual assault, said the organisation would continue to run as usual despite the disgraced former chief's departure. At an annual meeting at its Washington HQ, Lipsky said: "We are fully engaged in our responsibilities and I do not have the slightest doubt we are capable of operating at the level of professional excellence and expertise that should be expected of us, and we expect of ourselves."
