Investors pile into North American equities

The North American sector saw its highest ever inflows in February as UK retail investors piled into overseas equities, according to the IMA.

The Global, North America and Japan sectors were the best selling equity asset classes last month as net retail sales for equities reached £774m. The North American sector alone took in £222m in assets. Equity sales accounted for 56% of total fund inflows compared to 21% for bonds. However, overall, the £ Strategic Bond sector was the best selling sector with net retail sales of £272m. Net retail sales for bonds totalled £195m, compared to the average of £562m for the previous 12 months.
