HSBC Asset Management began offering a protected technology Isa linked to a basket of 20 equally weighted stocks. The Dublin-based product called Safety.net offered 90% capital protection if the product was held throughout its three-year term. At launch, the portfolio contained Microsoft, Motorola, AT&T, Cisco, Nokia, Sony, Yahoo, Toshiba, AOL and Vodafone. The value of the portfolio was assessed at the start of the bond's life and at quarterly intervals. The final return to investors was calculated by comparing the average portfolio value with the starting value.
