The Dow Jones shot up on opening today, following the news Chrysler has staved off bankruptcy. The index rose 0.8% to 8,835 points early, after a US federal bankruptcy judge yesterday approved the auto giant's plans to balance its books by closing a quarter of its showrooms. It later fell back 0.25% to 8,814. Bank Citigroup, miner Alcoa and retailer Home Depot were the fastest rising stocks at 3.32% to US$3.52, 2.51% to $11.43 and 2.18% to $24.88 respectively.
