Domestic consumption remains the key driver behind Chinese equities, according to HSBC Global Asset Management. Head of emerging markets Christian Deseglise said consumption is the main factor behind continued growth rather than the Olympics. He highlighted the US$40bn spent on Olympic related projects compared to a massive US$6.3tn fixed asset investment since 2002. Deseglise added the prospects for the region remain positive with GDP growth at 10.1% and with inflation easing.
