China's landmark decision to relax its 40-year old one-child policy came after months of speculation over signs the government was ready to loosen the reins. Recent data has shown a slowdown in China’s growth rate is now well underway. With slowing exports and rising wages also providing dampening economic expansion, the government is beginning to address the challenges facing the nation in a different way – through an end to the controversial one-child policy.
