Pensions offer great tax benefits but because their value can only be used in certain ways some investors may like to consider alternative ways to save for retirement

A-day for pension simplification is less than six months away and it has been causing debate among industry professionals, particularly within the last year. Pension planning had lost its gloss since the downturn in equity markets. Hopefully, the new regime with all its wrinkles, complexities and advice issues will reinvigorate the market, but for some the desire to maintain complete control and access to their personal wealth may still mean that an alternative strategy is more compelling.
