They say nothing in life is certain except death and taxes but for those with assets above the inheritance tax threshold - £263,000 this tax year - this saying will be ringing true. The Government claimed £2.35bn last year from inheritance tax, up from £1.67bn in 1997-98, so it earns considerable sums from this source of income. These figures will also be larger this tax year.
