Investors return to sector as region's stock markets rebound strongly from sharp falls in financial crisis
The IMA Asia Pacific ex Japan sector returned to favour in 2009 as the region’s stock markets rebounded strongly from the sharp falls during the financial crisis. Investors piled back into the sector, which posted net retail sales of £1.36bn in 2009, compared to just £164.2m in 2008. They would have been rewarded for their optimism with the average fund in the IMA Asia Pacific ex Japan sector up 82.2% over the 12 months to 8 March, according to Morningstar. Of all the IMA sectors, only Global Emerging Markets has delivered stronger average returns over the last year, rising 85.5%. ...
