BlueBay Asset Management has made two developed market special situations hires, appointing James Rous as an institutional portfolio manager and Giovanni Galvani as an analyst.

The hires come as the company sees "an increasing opportunity to invest in stressed and distressed credit" following the wake of the pandemic, announcing that it will launch a new special situations investment strategy "in the coming months".

Both Rous and Galvani will be based in London and report to Adam Phillips, who joined BlueBay last year as head of developed markets within its global leveraged finance team.

Before joining BlueBay, Rous was head of marketing and investor relations at Caius Capital for four years. Prior to this, he held senior roles at Fortress Investment Group, Thames River Capital, and Punter Southall Group.

Previously, Galvani was a distressed debt and special situations analyst at SC Lowy. Before this, he worked for Fidelity and Goldman Sachs.

Phillips said: "We are excited to welcome Giovanni and James to the team.  As an Italian national, Giovanni will primarily focus on analysing and sourcing investment opportunities in the Italian market, where we will aim to deploy a significant amount of capital over the next few years.

"James will add invaluable expertise in helping to develop new product offerings and as a liaison between our investors and our Global Business Development team.

"These appointments bring us to four new senior hires within this Special Situations team over the past 12 months, which reflects our view that there is an increasingly interesting opportunity set in this space."
