Polar Capital has hired ex-Neptune manager and head of US equities Ali Unwin to its technology investment team, while also appointing an analyst from Neptune to the artificial intelligence fund.
Unwin joined the technology team, headed by Ben Rogoff and Nick Evans, on 26 June as a senior investment analyst.
He managed the US Opportunities and Global Techology funds at Neptune and was head of US equities prior to his departure last August.
Since then, he has worked as co-portfolio manager on the American Equities fund at Arbrook Investors.
Meanwhile, Neptune's Nick Williams joined the Polar Capital team on 1 June as an investment analyst to work alongside Xuesong Zhao, lead manager of the Polar Capital Automation & Artificial Intelligence (A&AI) fund.
Williams spent three and a half years at Neptune working on the US investment team.
Polar Capital partner Nick Evans said the latter appointment was the first dedicated hire for the recently launched A&AI fund, which "looks within and beyond the traditional technology sector for investment opportunities".
He said: "Ali is an experienced technology investor and joins as a senior analyst working alongside Fatima Iu, Xuesong Zhao, Chris Wittstock and the rest of the team on our two core technology funds."
Partner Ben Rogoff added: "We are delighted to welcome both Nick and Ali. This takes our team to nine dedicated professionals reflecting both the investment opportunities created by an accelerated pace of technology adoption, as well as the need to stay on top of deepening disruption as myriad industries are transformed by cloud computing, artificial intelligence and demographic change."
Meanwhile, Iain Evans, head of sales, commented: "Technology has been at the core of Polar Capital since our launch in 2001. It is an exciting time to be expanding what is already one of the largest and most successful technology teams globally."
