It is not often that an investment idea starts off by recognising that it is aimed at a very select group of people. ‘Impact investing' is one such idea.

It takes a very special type of investor to participate in impact investment and usually quite a rich one. For many people of means, their wealth has been split between investments in traditional financial instruments and philanthropy. Impact investment offers a third alternative. Impact investment is an investment that places capital in businesses that seek a financial return that is often based on the degree of social or environmental impact that subsequently results.
