The recent severe global market sell-off has stemmed from a number of legitimate investor concerns.

Most of the big issues, however, are connected to developed Western economies, be it the recent US debt downgrade or the spread of sovereign debt worries. It is true emerging markets have some headwinds of their own, but they do not compare in any way to the kinds of problems seen today in the developed West. A central issue in developed markets is the excess of leverage. In contrast, many emerging markets are not overly indebted, and have superior economic growth rates compared to the anaemic recoveries in advanced economies.
