My uncharacteristic enthusiasm for India stems from a recent research visit to the country. The trip was prompted by a number of factors. Firstly, the launch of several new India funds, each of which has presented a very attractive macroeconomic/demographic scenario which I have found difficult to contradict. Secondly, the recent underperformance of Indian equities, exemplified by the benchmark Sensex index which fell by 11% from the end of September 2010 to the end of February 2011, compared to the FTSE World index which rose 10% over the same period.
