BlackRock hit with fake Fink climate letter - reports

Claimed to be taking action on climate change

BlackRock has been targeted by unknown hoaxers who, through a letter purporting to be written by CEO Larry Fink, successfully convinced media outlets that the firm was taking action on climate change.

As a result, some media outlets reported on Wednesday (16 January) that BlackRock had told companies it invests in that they must take action on tackling climate change or risk losing the firm's backing, according to the FT. The climate change revolution: Two investor misconceptions The letter, which is assumed to have been written by environmental campaigners, was sent out at around the same time as the fund giant's quarterly earnings announcement on Wednesday.
