JO Hambro Capital Management (JOHCM) has hired former M&G equities manager Aled Smith as an investment director, as the firm plots an expansion of its fund range.
Smith will join JOHCM on 24 September and be based in London, providing oversight to the group's 16 investment teams globally.
He will also seek investment talent for the firm as JOHCM aims to add to its range of investment strategies over time.
In his most recent role, Smith worked as a director in the equities division of M&G Investments, having spent 18 years at the asset manager.
He was best known for his management of the Global Leaders fund, which he had run since 2002. This fund has since been merged into the Global Themes fund, run by Jamie Horvat, following Smith's departure.
It was first announced Smith would be stepping down from M&G last November and he left the firm this April.
Prior to joining M&G, Smith worked as a buy-side analyst at J.P. Morgan Asset Management.
Emilio Gonzalez, who is acting as JOHCM CEO since the departure of Ken Lambden last month, said Smith would play "an important role" in JOHCM's future growth.
"Aled has a tremendous pedigree as an experienced, successful investor and is an innovative thinker.
"His expertise will help us maintain our emphasis on generating market-leading long-term returns for our clients through high conviction, active investing and will play an important role in the growth of the JOHCM business."
