Ex-New Star manager Evershed wades in to Barclays bonus row

Former New Star manager Patrick Evershed has reportedly been jeered at Barclays' AGM today after attempting to defend the bank's bonus proposals.

Evershed (pictured), who last hit the headlines in 2011 when involved in a high profile court case over his exit from New Star, attempted to defend the bonuses recommended by Barclays' remuneration committee for 2013. However, according to the Guardian, Evershed was then jeered by investors. The paper reported the veteran fund manager received "a heckling from fellow investors" after standing up and defending Barclays' bonuses. Barclays has proposed increasing its bonus pool by 10% to £2.4bn for 2013, despite profits having fallen 32% to £5.2bn. Evershed's comments came during a...
