UK's third-longest serving fund manager to retire

Brian O'Neill, one of the country's longest-serving managers, is to retire from his role running the Henderson Global investment trust next year.

Having run the portfolio for 30 years, O'Neill is the third-longest serving manager in the UK in terms of length of time spent managing a single fund. He is only beaten by Peter Spiller, manager of the Capital Gearing trust, and Hugh Mumford, part of the management team of the Electra Private Equity trust. In the open-ended space, meanwhile, his closest rival is Andrew Green, manager of the GAM Global Diversified fund, who began managing the fund in January 1984, a year after O'Neill took over his own portfolio.
