Markets slide overnight after day of woe for Europe

Markets in the US and Asia fell yesterday after a tough day for European shares which left many indices sharply lower.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.75% at 12,835, while the S&P 500 was off 0.7%, finishing at 1,354.6, as investors reacted to further selling in Europe and fears Greece has no choice but to exit the eurozone. Asian markets fared a little better, with the Nikkei off 0.4% at 9,009.7, and the Hong Kong Hang Seng closing down 0.9% at 20,152.8. The losses followed a down day for markets on the continent where Spain's IBEX dived 2.8% to 6,813 points, while France's Cac finished 0.2% lower at 3,118.7.
