GAM launches Asia fund for Star manager Lai

GAM has unveiled an Asian equity fund for Michael Lai that will focus on "overlooked" markets in the region.

The GAM Star Emerging Asia Equity fund will be managed by Michael Lai, co-manager of the £1.1bn GAM Star China Equity fund, alongside investment manager Camille Vergara. The Asia fund will aim to outperform the MSCI AC South East Asia index over the long term, focusing on key ASEAN markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Based in Hong Kong, Lai will run a high-conviction portfolio of between 35 and 45 stocks, focused on mid-cap companies which Lai said were under researched, overlooked and mispriced.
