FTSE slips as miners tumble

The FTSE 100 is in the red in early trading with miners leading it lower despite gains overnight in the US.

BHP Billiton, Kazakhmys and peers were down amid fears there will be further tightening in the copper price when Chinese economic date is released tomorrow. BHP Billiton has fallen 0.67% to £25.23, while Kazakhmys has dipped 0.85% to £13.97p. In response, the FTSE 100 is currently down 0.37% at 5,988 at 8.35am. In the US the Dow Jones finished trading marginally up, 0.6%. There had been expectations it would move further up after JPMorgan achieved record profits.
