BP expects to pay a dividend in Q1

BP may resume paying a dividend to shareholders in the first quarter of next year.

Incoming chief executive Bob Dudley, who takes over from Tony Hayward tomorrow, has told the BBC the board of the oil giant would meet to discuss restoring the dividend in the coming months. BP, which was previously the largest dividend payers in the FTSE 100, suspended distributions to investors following the Gulf of Mexico disaster. "The board will get together and talk before the end of the year about restoring a dividend in some form in the first quarter," Dudley says. "It's obviously for the board to decide, [but] from what I see happening in the performances of the businesses...
