BP agrees to inform US Govt ahead of transactions

BP has agreed to inform the US Government of any major business decision which could affect the future shape of the company following the Gulf of Mexico disaster.

The Times reports the oil giant bowed to demands to notify the Department of Justice at least 30 days ahead of major moves. It says the request came in a letter from US Assistant Attorney-General Tony West to BP general counsel Rupert Bondy on June 23. The US Government asked the oil giant to inform US justice officials in advance of "any planned or contemplated events that may involve substantial transfers of cash or other corporate assets outside of the ordinary course of business".
