The annual results season is well under way in the UK, with 10% of companies on the FTSE All-Share index reporting their full year results on one day last week. Most results have been in line with or slightly ahead of consensus forecasts. Double digit earnings and dividend increases were at the high end of expectations and significantly ahead of the rate of inflation. In the banking sector Barclays and Royal Bank of Scotland declared 17% increases in their dividend payments.
