Arbitrageurs have been building a stake in the £2.5bn Alliance Trust. Deutsche Bank has taken a 3% position in the trust on behalf of an unnamed investor. A likely buyer touted by analysts is Lars Bader, managing partner of QVT Financial. QVT is part of a consortium of investors that recently built up a 29.7% stake in Peter Webb's Eaglet and is looking to oust three directors from the trust's board.
