Liontrust has identified more than 100 members of the All-Share which are now yielding more than cash. Investment co-director Jeremy Lang said there have only been two other times since 1945 when a significant number of shares produced higher yields than cash, in 1974 and 1990-91. During these periods there were between 30 and 50 such stocks, according to Lang, who added that many of these were unsound investments, unlike circumstances today. The net dividend yield on the All-Share now stands at 2.72% compared with 4% for cash and 4.7% for gilts, while inflation is hovering around 2.5%. ...
