In a reversal of the year-to-date trend, the median fund in both the S&P UK Gilt and the UK Fixed Interest sectors have outperformed their benchmarks in the third quarter of this year. Standard & Poor's said the median UK Gilt fund returned 0.6% compared to a gain of 0.5% from the FTSE All Stocks index, while the median UK Fixed Interest fund returned 1% against 0.9% from the Merrill Lynch Sterling Non Gilts index. Alison Cratchley, S&P fund analyst, said that in the UK Gilt sector, curve positioning was an important driver of returns.
