The investment and savings landscape has come a long way since the 1980s. Pensions are undergoing a complete overhaul; mostly due to the fact that we are living longer. The economy also continues to surprise. Expectations of long-term inflation have reduced massively, leading to an inexorable decrease in the yields on bonds and gilts which underlie annuities.
