With market returns expected to return to pre-1990s conditions, Rodger McNair, manager of the Investors Capital investment trust, is expecting dividends to return to prominence as part of total UK equity returns. According to a Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) gilt equity study, until the 1990s, dividends typically accounted for 60% of total equity returns, while from 1989 to 1999 they contributed just 25% of total returns from UK equities.
