By Fiona Henderson The majority of defined benefit (DB) schemes are actively managed, with a very small percentage using passive mandates. According to Phillips & Drew's, Survey of Investment Management Arrangements 2000, 3% of defined benefit schemes use an exclusively passive approach, this compares to 54% that are exclusively actively managed. The remaining 43% choose a combination of both active and passive styles.
