Pension fund gains barely outstripped inflation over a three year period following the third quarter 2001 results, the worst quarter since 1990 for balanced funds, according to the latest CAPS figures. Continuing poor quarterly figures have started to affect the longer term performance of pension funds and they are struggling to keep up with inflation and wages over a three year period. Over three years the median balanced fund earned 2.6% pa while inflation for the same period was 2.2%pa.
