Let's face it, the short-term outlook for the UK stock market is not good. War is looming, the latest economic news has been poor and the earnings outlook is uncertain. I suppose we should take some comfort from the higher inflation figures, but does anybody really think this is providing companies with more pricing power? In truth, the fact inflation is twice as high as it was a year ago has a lot to do with the oil price flirting with the $40 mark for the first time since the last Iraq war.
